Soul 57
Communication and Business Intern
During my last semester at the University of Mary, I interned for Soul 57, a local nonprofit that provides grief support services to youth across North Dakota who have experienced the tragedy of losing a close loved one. As an intern, I primarily worked on improving Soul 57's marketing strategy and business practices as a newly established nonprofit. At the conclusion of my internship, I was hired as Marketing and Communications Assistant.

Website Design

For this project I researched other similar nonprofits' websites to see what the competition had that Soul 57 could emulate.
I built three webpages under the topic resources: What is Grief, Navigating Grief, and Grief Statistics. Having a resources page is vital for grief nonprofits as visitors to the website might need support immediately and may not be able to join in-person therapy groups right away.
I had never used this particular website builder, Studio North, before and I found that it had more limited design options than other website builders. Despite this, I rose to the challenge of building these webpages and I am very proud of the result.
Informative Social Media Post
I created this post as an overview of all the different services Soul 57 provides. It is pinned at the top of Soul 57's Instagram and Facebook so that newcomers can know what to expect from the organization and see if they are in need of its services.
Creating this post helped me develop two major communication skills: Strategic Writing and Graphic Design.
While I was writing I had to keep in mind the balance between informing the audience and persuading it. I also was uncertain if my language was appropriate for the sensitive nature of grief, so I asked my supervisor to check over my work before posting.
In terms of graphic design, I drew inspiration from “about me” posts and scrapbooking to create a cohesive post that is aligned to the overall presentation of Soul 57's brand.

Graphic Design and Social Media
A lot of my time at Soul 57 was spent designing posts for social media. These projects allowed me to use my creativity in creating eye-catching designs that were both informative and appropriate for the nature of the nonprofit.
About halfway through my internship, I was promoted from simply creating posts to both creating and posting content via Meta Business Suite.
You can find a larger selection of my graphic designs on the Soul 57 Facebook and Instagram.
